Edinburgh's world famous New Year celebrations this year features a 5 day programme of music, dance, art, conversation, fireworks, street theatre, light and fire from 29 December until 2 January. Brand new events programmes as well as popular favourites, will bring Edinburgh’s streets alive with non-stop enjoyment for both residents and visitors to Scotland’s capital city.Highlights on New Year's Eve itself include Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party when 80,000 party-goers from Scotland and all across the globe will join together in Princes Street to celebrate the New Year against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh and the Old Town.At the Waverley Stage The Enemy will be accompanied by some of Scotland’s coolest young bands including the 5-piece Glasgow based Frightened Rabbit, fantastic new Edinburgh band Stanley Odd whose rap music appeals to jazz junkies, funk fans and hip-hop headz alike and the ambitious and bold Edinburgh based 4-piece We Were Promised Jet Packs. The Waverley Stage will be hosted by special guest DJ, BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway.The West End DJ Stage will feature rare performances from Scotland’s favourite DJ Mylo and sets from Snow Patrol’s front man, Gary Lightbody & Tom Simpson and Belle and Sebastian’s Richard Colburn with host VJ Barony.The Mound Stage will feature the glam pop music, kick-ass acrobatic dance moves and outrageous personas of Glitter Banditz and crazy Caribbean funsters The Cuban Brothers, with host Edinburgh’s cheestastic DJ king of pop The Great Calverto.Meanwhile, over in West Princes Street Gardens, headliners the legendary Madness with special guest pop sensations Noisettes and Scotland’s hottest new band Codeine Velvet Club will rock the audience at the Concert in the Gardens.Revellers will birl through the bells at an open air ceilidh, The Keilidh featuring a top ceilidh-dancin line-up of the best in traditional Scottish music from Ceilidhdonia, Hugh Macdiarmid’s Haircut & Watergaw. There will be bars and food outlets and great views of the midnight fireworks on Calton Hill and above the Castle. At midnight, 2010 will be welcomed in spectacular fashion as the world famous Midnight Fireworks light up the skies above Edinburgh while revellers link arms to sing the World’s Biggest Auld Lang Syne. For something more serene, the Candlelit Concert offers an evening of contemplative and uplifting music in St Giles Cathedral on the High Street. St Giles’ Cathedral Choir with the St Giles’ Camerata are joined by an array of young soloists for a programme of music that marks the 250th anniversary of Handel’s death with his celebratory Coronation Anthems, including Zadok the Priest. This feast of Baroque music also includes J.S.Bach’s Magnficat in D and Alessandro Scarlatti’s Cantata Pastorale.And for those who want to party through the night, Edinburgh's Official Hogmanay Aftershow Party features Mylo’s second DJ Set of the night plus sets from James Zabiela and special guests.
